Kaduna Police Nab Kidnapper, Recover Ransom Cash

Kaduna Police scored a win against banditry on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the retrieval of ransom money.

Police spokesperson ASP Mansir Hassan revealed in a statement that acting on credible intelligence, officers apprehended Abdulkarim Usman Maude, aged 33, in Upara Warsapiti, Lere County (Local Government Area).

Upon searching Maude, the police found a bag containing N347,000 (US$237.348), a machete, and charms used for protection. Maude reportedly confessed during questioning to participating in kidnapping for ransom operations along with three others.

The recovered cash is his cut from the ransom paid for the release of two abducted tractor operators, Yau Balele (aged 45) and Lukman Abubakar (aged 40), who were kidnapped in May while working on a farm. The victims were eventually released after the ransom was paid.

The Kaduna State Police said it has gone after Maude’s accomplices.
