Katsina Governor Claims 70 percent Drop in Bandit Attacks

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda is crediting security cooperation for a purported 70 percent reduction in banditry across the Northwest state in the last year.  Radda, speaking to reporters during a visit to Yola over the weekend, highlighted “robust synergy” between local and federal security forces as the key factor.

However, the Governor cautioned that the fight is not yet won. He noted a shift in bandit tactics, with attacks concentrated in hard-to-reach villages near forests. These assaults often involve violence and property destruction, but he noted that his administration is addressing the situation with new strategies.

“What we are witnessing now is the crazy approach by the bandits going to hard-to-reach villages close to forests, burning houses and killing people. We can have developed strategies to fight it,” Governor Radda said.

Radda stressed the need for the creation of state police-forces, arguing they would strengthen security efforts in Nigeria. While TruthNigeria could not confirm the 70 percent reduction in insecurity, Radda’s claims offer a ray of light for Katsina, a state that has long grappled with banditry.
