Lagos Police Capture Robbers Involved in DPO Attack

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended the gang of robbers responsible for an attack on a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the notorious Otedola Bridge. Two weeks after the brazen attack, the armed robbers are now in police custody.

The robbery was on Tuesday, April 9, at approximately 11:00 p.m. local time.  According to a police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the DPO, CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda of Alausa Division, was conducting an undercover operation on the bridge, a known hotspot for criminal activity, when she was ambushed by a gang of three armed men.

The robbers, wielding cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons, attacked the DPO, inflicting machete injuries. They then stole the DPO’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

The police authorities in Lagos refused to let the crime stand.  They launched a relentless investigation, meticulously piecing together evidence to identify the assailants. Hundeyin said they were tracked down on April 13 with the stolen phone in their possession.

The suspects forcefully snatched the Samsung S22 phone from the DPO, the investigation revealed, and then macheted her on the back again before escaping, reported Vanguard.
