Nigerian Army Corporal Arrested in Borno with Stolen Ammunition Cache

Nigerian Army authorities in Borno State have arrested Corporal Francis Bako on suspicion of stealing ammunition, according to reports on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024.

Military sources, cited by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, revealed that Bako was apprehended at Kano Motor Park in Maiduguri following a tip-off. The corporal, stationed in Mallam Fatori, was reportedly on his way out of the state to Kaduna State when he was stopped and searched.

The search yielded a significant haul of ammunition: 602 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a type commonly used in rifles. Bako has been detained by the military and faces further investigation.

The Nigerian Army is yet to officially comment on the arrest or Bako’s intended purpose with the ammunition.
