Nigerian Army Repels Terrorist Attacks in Zamfara, Four Soldiers Killed

Nigerian soldiers bravely fought back against terrorists during two separate ambushes in Zamfara State, according to a statement by Abuja’s Defence Headquarters.

The statement details the soldiers’ resilience in the face of adversity. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba said on Tuesday that the soldiers were on patrol on Sunday, May 12th 2024 when they encountered a group of armed terrorists. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in casualties on both sides.

While the Nigerian Army inflicted significant casualties on the terrorist groups, the military response came at a cost, with four soldiers losing their lives and eight others sustaining injuries.

This attack comes amidst a surge in violence in Nigeria’s northwest region, where terrorist groups have been carrying out attacks on civilians and security forces. The Nigerian military has been conducting counter-terrorism operations in the region, but the violence has continued.

The injured soldiers are currently receiving medical treatment at a military facility. The military authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased soldiers, but they have vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
