Abuja’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) is touting progress in its fight against terrorism, claiming troops killed over 700 terrorists and rescued 465 kidnap victims during operations conducted in April.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, announced these figures at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. He explained that the successes stemmed from coordinated ground and air offensives launched across the country.
“The synchronized strikes between the ground and air forces during the period under review resulted in over 715 terrorists neutralized, 1,146 persons arrested, and 465 kidnapped hostages rescued,” said Major General Buba.
The briefing also emphasized the destruction of camps of prominent terrorist leaders, including Ali Dawud, Bakura Fallujah, and Mallam Ari, through targeted airstrikes. “All the surviving terrorist commanders and leaders are walking corpses as we would get them, sooner than later,” Buba added.
Despite these gains, the DHQ recognizes that the fight against terrorism is not over. Buba reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal networks and prioritizing the security of Nigerian citizens.
