Police Confirm 11 Killed in Katsina Bandit Attack

Armed bandits invaded Bakori county in Katsina State, the home state of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday night, May 25. The attack resulted in the deaths of 11 villagers and left many others injured and displaced.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, heavily armed, stormed the communities, shooting indiscriminately and setting houses on fire. Initial reports said the violence primarily affected three undisclosed villages with 40 people killed in the brutal onslaught.

However, police authorities set the record straight. They confirmed the attack, stating that only Unguwar Lamido in Bakori, a village that has seen a surge in banditry and violent crimes in recent times, was attacked and that 11 persons were killed.

Police say they have commenced an investigation into the attack. “The command is working closely with relevant stakeholders and members of the community to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” a statement read.
