President Bola Tinubu’s administration marks its first year in office on May 29, but the celebrations will be notably quiet. In contrast to the grand festivities that typically accompany such milestones, the President has opted for a “low-key” observance.
In place of fanfare, ministers will deliver media briefings on the administration’s achievements and plans in the various sectors of the Nigerian economy. The sectoral presentation began on May 22nd.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the decision to keep the anniversary low-key is influenced by President Tinubu’s desire to serve the country and “ensure efficient and judicious use of resources to deliver dividends of democracy to citizens.”
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu has faced numerous hurdles, including rising inflation, persistent insecurity, and calls for economic reforms, which he is struggling to overcome.
