Fear has gripped Ikachi village in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria, following a horrific attack by unidentified gunmen on Sunday. The attack, which unfolded in the early hours, resulted in the brutal beheading of two villagers and the abduction of seven others.
Reports indicate that the heavily armed gunmen stormed the village, located in the Akparata area of Effium in Ohaukwu county, unleashing mayhem. Five women and two men were seized by the attackers, while at least twelve residents were left with gunshot wounds.
The violence did not spare property, with five houses set ablaze. Locals claim the gunmen were warlords from the neighboring Ezza community. Ezza and Effium have a long history of violent clashes.
A resident who spoke to Premium Times said locals are fleeing the village in the aftermath of the attack out of fear. Authorities have yet to make any arrests, but they assured the public of a diligent investigation.
