Two Years After Abuja–Kaduna Train Assault, Police Capture Prime Suspects

Nigerian authorities have reeled in a suspect believed to be the architect of the horrific Abuja–Kaduna train bombing in March 2022.  Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as “Mande,” was apprehended in January 2024 by the Kaduna State Police’s anti-kidnapping unit.

The train attack, a brutal ambush involving gunfire and abductions, left numerous casualties and scarred the nation. Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed, in a statement on Thursday, that Abdullahi not only confessed to masterminding the train attack but also admitted to his role in the kidnapping of students from Greenfield University in 2021 and almost all the kidnappings along the Abuja–Kaduna highway.

Abdullahi was arrested alongside Auwal Ayuba and Babangida Alhaji Bello, who also confessed to being part of the armed group that attacked the train. A significant cache of AK-47 rifles was seized during their arrest.
