Fleeing Insurgents Seek New Hideout as Military Operations in Sambisa Forest Intensifies

Boko Haram appears to be on the run. Intelligence reports suggest the terror group is planning to abandon their long-time base in Sambisa Forest of Borno State for Bakin Dutse Hill in Madagali county in Adamawa State.

This news follows a period of intensified military operations codenamed Operation Desert Sanity III in Sambisa Forest, putting Boko Haram under significant pressure. The terrorist gangs have deserted their shelters, wandering the forest in search of safety in fragmented groups.

However, since the military can strike at any time, taking them unawares, the scattered fighters have begun making relocation plans as they do not want to suffer any further losses. This secret plan was revealed by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad-based counter-insurgency expert.

“Imagine, they burned all our silos and foodstuff hidden in bunkers. They also burned our clothes and homes. With this rainy season, they are planning to invade us and kill us like fowl,” a terrorist commander Salisu reportedly told another high-profile Boko Haram Commander Abba Alai, suggesting how unsafe Sambisa Forest has been for his gang in recent weeks.

Besides the Bakin Dutse Hill, the terror group is also targeting Mandara Mountain where they could link up with existing militant groups and launch new attacks in different areas.
