Early Sunday morning at around 1:00 a.m. local time, Boko Haram insurgents launched a daring attack on a police station in Jakana, Konduga County in Borno State, leaving one officer dead and looting the armoury.
The heavily armed militants stormed the facility, sparking a fierce gun battle with security personnel that lasted about three hours. Sadly, one officer and another individual lost their lives in the confrontation, and several others were injured. The attack caused widespread panic, prompting residents to flee for safety.
Amid the chaos, the insurgents breached the police station’s armoury and stole a significant amount of weapons and ammunition. They also set fire to two police patrol vehicles and a motorbike.
Hon. Abbas Ali Abari, the chairman of Konduga County, has confirmed the attack, but the Borno State Police Command has yet to comment.
This attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Borno State and the entire Northeast region. Despite ongoing efforts to combat Boko Haram, the group continues to cause significant losses to both civilians and security forces.
