The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has re-elected Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu as its Chairman.
Tinubu, a significant figure in West African politics, will serve another one-year term as Chairman of the regional organization, starting after his first tenure ends on July 9, 2024.
He was unanimously re-elected at the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held in Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday, July 7.
In his acceptance speech, Tinubu pledged to continue efforts toward the economic integration and development of the region.
He expressed gratitude to his fellow leaders for their trust and confidence. He pledged to continue working for a more integrated and prosperous West Africa.
“I have accepted to continue the service to the great members and the great minds that are committed to democratic values and our journey in the region,” Tinubu said. “I will continue to serve our interest and build on democratic values and the structure that we inherited.”
