Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has sounded the alarm on the devastating impact of insecurity on northern Nigeria’s development.
Sani painted a grim picture of the region’s plight on Monday, stating that insecurity has dealt a severe blow to the region’s progress, reversing gains made in various sectors.
“Food insecurity now confronts us directly,” Sani lamented, “Child and maternal mortality are on the increase; our infrastructure has decayed. The moves to address our infrastructural deficits are equally threatened by insecurity.”
Sani emphasized that the situation is dire, with northern Nigeria facing an existential threat. He also took aim at what he described as “toxic politics” and the “pull him down syndrome” prevalent among northern politicians.
“We engage in endless blame games, without introspection or soul-searching,” Sani said. “We fail to ask ourselves crucial questions: Who is complicit in the north’s underdevelopment? What have we done to address these challenges?”
The Governor called on northerners to put aside their differences and work together to find solutions to the region’s challenges and confront the criminals responsible for the insecurity.
