Four people were killed in Aba, Abia State, on Sunday, July 21st, 2024, following a violent confrontation between gunmen and a police patrol team. The deceased include an inspector of police, Shehu Oyibo, and three civilians caught in the crossfire.
The incident unfolded around 11:28 a.m. local time on Ngwa Road near Mosque Junction. Unidentified gunmen ambushed a Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol team in a silver Toyota Sienna, sparking a shootout. The police team bravely fought back, but not before Inspector Oyibo and the three civilians were fatally shot.
Abia State Police spokesperson, SP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the attack. She reported that two of the attackers were taken down by police while “others escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries.”
