A combined force of Nigerian Army troops, police, and civilian guards (locally called vigilantes) managed to thwart a bandit attack on Kofar Jange in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara State, on Sunday night.
However, the victory came at a cost, with two officers killed and another abducted during the clash.
Specific details about the number of attackers and their targets are still emerging. A report by Zagazola Makama suggests a heavy exchange of gunfire after the bandits descended upon the community.
The combined security forces deployed to defend the community managed to push back the attackers, but not without suffering casualties.
“Unfortunately, two policemen paid the supreme price while one other person was abducted,” a source told Zagazola Makama. The abducted officer’s whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities have initiated a search- and-rescue operation.
