Nigerian authorities have taken into custody several high-profile figures, including a state lawmaker, a district head, and a former county chairman, accused of colluding with ruthless bandits terrorizing the Northwest region.
The arrested individuals are from Kauran Namoda in Zamfara State. The arrests come as the community reels from a surge in kidnappings and banditry, with at least four people killed and over 100 others abducted in a recent attack.
Law enforcement sources reveal that the arrests are part of a broader crackdown on suspected collaborators who have been undermining military and intelligence efforts to combat banditry.
Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged collaboration and to identify other potential collaborators.
