Nigeria Pledges Stronger Ties With the United States

Nigeria has expressed its commitment to strengthening its relationship with the United States. The pledge comes following the 248th U.S. Independence Day celebration held at the American Embassy in Abuja.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, delivered the keynote address at the event. He emphasized the importance of solidifying the bilateral relations between the two nations.

“Since our independence, we have been two nations that have continued to watch our friendship, bond, and cooperation closely,” Tuggar stated, acknowledging the long-standing ties between Nigeria and the U.S.

This focus, he said, aligns with a key foreign policy objective under President Bola Tinubu: the successful implementation of the Nigeria-U.S. Binational Commission Agreement.

While specific details were not disclosed, Nigeria’s initiative suggests a desire for a more robust and strategic partnership with the U.S.
