Residents of Ogun State took to social media platform X to express their frustration with the condition of roads in the state, making Governor Dapo Abiodun a trending topic.
The online outrage, which unfolded on Monday, saw users share pictures of dilapidated roads from various parts of the southwest state. Many accused Governor Abiodun of failing to deliver on campaign promises to improve the state’s road network.
According to social media user HauwaAllahbura (@HauwaAllahbura), the Governor had pledged to fix roads during his election bid in 2019 but had not followed through.
Governor Abiodun’s administration has defended its record. A tweet from his office on July 2nd assured residents that significant progress has been made in the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of vital road networks across the state. The tweet further promised that all “roads that require attention” will be rehabilitated in due course.
However, residents appear unconvinced. They continue to call the Governor out using the hashtag #dapofixogunroads, accompanied by messages and images of the poor state of the roads.
