Nigerian-American basketball star Arike Ogunbowale etched her name deeper into WNBA history on Sunday. She led her team, the WNBA All-Stars, to a 117-109 win over Team USA at the Phoenix Footprint Center.
Despite a scoreless first half, Ogunbowale came alive in the second half. She set a new record by scoring 34 points, including an incredible 21 points in just one quarter! That is the most points ever scored in a single quarter during a WNBA All-Star Game.
Her performance not only secured the win for Team WNBA but also earned her the award of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game. This is the second time she’s won this award, making her a true WNBA legend. She also earned the honor at the 2021 All-Star Game, which also featured a Team WNBA vs. Team USA.
Ogunbowale joins Lisa Leslie, Maya Moore, and Swin Cash as the only players to achieve multiple All-Star Game MVP honors.
