The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has vehemently condemned the recent suicide bombing in Gwoza, Borno State, which claimed 32 lives.
CAN President, Reverend Daniel Okoh expressed his deep sorrow in a statement released on Wednesday. “This senseless act of violence is a stark reminder of the evil that terrorism represents, and the need for collective action to defeat it,” he said.
Beyond offering condolences, Reverend Okoh urged the Nigerian government to take decisive action. He emphasized the need for increased vigilance to prevent future attacks.
“We must not let down our guards, as the situation could escalate and affect not only innocent lives but also worship centres and other large gatherings,” he noted. CAN’s statement reflects the deep mourning felt by Nigeria’s Christian community after the attack.
The Gwoza bombing serves as a grim reminder of the ever-present security challenges plaguing Nigeria. The Boko Haram insurgency and affiliated groups continue to pose a significant threat, despite ongoing military efforts.
