The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, has dropped to 39th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings.
This is a significant fall from their 28th position in February, which followed a strong performance in the Africa Cup of Nations where they finished second.
While FIFA has not specified the reasons for the decline, it is likely due to the team’s recent poor performances in World Cup qualifiers and friendly matches.
Nigeria tied 1-1 with South Africa and lost 2-1 to the Benin Republic in their qualifiers, and despite a 2-1 win against Ghana in a friendly, they suffered a 2-0 loss to Mali.
This drop in ranking also affects their continental standing, with Nigeria now fifth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.
