Relief washed over the Catholic community in Zamfara State as Reverend Father Mikah Suleiman, abducted two weeks ago, regained his freedom. Father Suleiman, the parish priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Damba, Gusau, was taken by gunmen who raided his residence on June 22nd.
During his captivity, a disturbing video emerged showing a frail Father Suleiman pleading for help. The footage fueled public outcry and demands for his safe return.
On Sunday, Reverend Father Pascal Salifu, Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, confirmed Father Suleiman’s release in a statement. “We are overjoyed to announce the safe release of Fr. Mikah Suleiman,” Father Salifu stated.
The statement offered gratitude to God, those who offered prayers and support, and “all involved in securing Fr Mikah’s release,” though details on the latter remain undisclosed.
Father Suleiman is currently receiving “necessary care and support” to help him recover from his ordeal. The Diocese concluded their statement by requesting continued prayers for the priest’s well-being.
