A devastating explosion ripped through a market in northeastern Nigeria’s Konduga town, leaving at least 17 people dead and more than 20 injured.
The suspected Boko Haram attack struck Wednesday night in the Kawuri community, approximately 31 miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
According to intelligence sources, the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated by a suicide bomber who had been living in the community for several days.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, evacuating the injured to nearby medical facilities and transporting the deceased to a local health center. The Police Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team was also deployed to ensure the area was clear of additional threats.
The attack has put joint-security teams on high alert, with efforts underway to restore normalcy to the affected area.
