A coalition of groups protesting against bad governance in Jos, the capital of Plateau State in Nigeria, has reportedly put their #EndBadGovernance demonstrations on hold temporarily to open the door for dialogue with key government officials. Gov. Caleb Mutfwang declared a curfew in Plateau State in a decree Sunday evening.
According to Enoch Vilret, the coalition’s spokesperson, the decision to pause the protests was made to create space for meaningful discussions that could address the concerns raised by the protesters. He shared this update on Sunday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The protest, which has been ongoing since Thursday, August 1st, will are expected to be suspended for two days, from Sunday, August 4th to Tuesday, August 6th. Vilret stressed that this pause is not a retreat or a sign of weakness but rather a strategic move to seek peaceful resolutions. He added that if the dialogue fails to produce concrete results within the given timeframe, the protests will resume.
However, Prophet Isa El-Buba, a key figure in the ongoing demonstrations, has denied the report, labelling it as “fake news.” The clergyman insists that the protests are still in full swing and has strongly condemned the curfew imposed by the State government in an attempt to stop the demonstrations.
