Nigerian troops backed by anti-Boko Haram militias called the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) took down a top Boko Haram commander and three other militants in a daring raid on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Abu Rijab, a notorious Boko Haram leader, was among those killed in the operation, which targeted a terrorist camp in the Bula Daloje area of Bama County (Local Government Area) in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.
According to sources, the troops from Operation Hadin Kai, Hybrid Force, and CJTF launched a surprise attack on the camp, sparking a fierce gunbattle with insurgents who attempted to ambush them en route.
Despite being outgunned, the troops successfully repelled the attack, killing four militants, including Abu Rijab, and forcing others to flee. Two AK-47 rifles and a mobile phone were recovered during the operation. However, the operation came at a cost, as one Hybrid Force personnel died from gunshot wounds sustained in the engagement.
