President Tinubu Orders Smaller Nigerian Delegation to UN General Assembly

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a reduction in the size of Nigeria’s official delegation to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York.

Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, explained that this decision is part of the administration’s effort to manage resources wisely and cut costs. “The President directed that anyone without business at the UN General Assembly should not travel to America,” said Gbajabiamila.

He also noted, “From experience, we know that some individuals use the opportunity of such international meetings to attend to their personal business.”

Gbajabiamila emphasized that the directive is a response to public demands for reducing the cost of governance, which were highlighted during the recent 10-day #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.

“During the protests, there was a strong call to lower the cost of governance. People are watching to see if Nigeria will once again send the ‘largest delegation’ to UNGA,” he said. Gbajabiamila assured that President Tinubu is attuned to the concerns of Nigerians and is committed to addressing them seriously.
