Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced that the military is closing in on Bello Turji, a wanted bandit leader in Zamfara State. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa assured that Turji’s capture is imminent.
“On the issue of Turji…I can bet you that it is just a matter of time,” Musa stated. “We are going to get him, and I can assure you within the shortest possible time, we are going to address that issue.”
The Defense Chief revealed that the military has been collaborating with other security agencies and the Zamfara state government to protect citizens, following reports of Turji imposing levies on communities.
Gen. Musa urged local residents to support the military. “Most of the area where this thing (insecurity) is continuing is because we have informants within the communities,” he explained.
“You are dealing with non-state actors that are not wearing uniforms, you don’t know them, but they know you. And within the communities, if you don’t have the support of the community, it makes it extremely very difficult.”
Musa affirmed the military’s commitment to address the security challenges across the country. He called on the public to assist in the fight against insecurity, saying “Please do not give them any support. Do not give them information on the movement of troops.”
