The Nigerian national football teams delivered impressive victories on Saturday, with the Super Eagles defeating Benin Republic 3-0 in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the Falconets overpowering Venezuela 4-0 in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
In Uyo, Nigeria, the Super Eagles ended a three-game winless streak in their Group D opener. Ballon d’Or nominee Ademola Lookman scored twice, with Victor Osimhen adding a third to secure the win.
Lookman broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, while Osimhen doubled the lead in the 79th minute. Lookman completed the rout with a header in the 83rd minute. Nigeria now leads Group D and faces Rwanda next.
Meanwhile, in Colombia, the Falconets dominated Venezuela in their final group match. First-half goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sebastine put the team in control, with Joy Igbokwe scoring a stunning fourth in stoppage time.
With the win, the Falconets advance to the Round of 16, where they will face either Japan or Austria on September 13th.
