A notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Sani Black, was killed in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, in an operation by local civilian guards supported by the military. Sani Black, known for terrorizing northern communities, was ambushed and killed in the Magama Mai Rake area of Maru County on September 24, 2024. Two of his sons were also killed.
The vigilantes recovered two AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, and cash from the scene. Sani Black had been responsible for numerous attacks, kidnappings, and sexual violence across Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, and Kebbi States. He led a group of over 150 armed followers, making him one of the region’s most feared criminals.
Following the ambush, Nigerian troops were deployed to prevent retaliation from the bandits. However, they came under heavy fire from terrorists in the area, resulting in the destruction of a Combat Support Vehicle (CSK) and the wounding of two soldiers
Intelligence reports suggest that other bandit leaders are planning reprisals, prompting heightened security measures across the State. Security forces remain on high alert to prevent further violence.
