Secessionist Gunmen Kill 2 Officers in Explosive Assault on Police Station

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) secessionist group attacked a police station in Orumba South County, Anambra State, on Monday, killing two officers on duty. The attackers arrived at the station with improvised explosives, firing continuously as part of the station was set ablaze.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the State police spokesperson, confirmed the attack. He stated that joint security forces, including the police, army, navy, and civil defence, recovered five unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the scene. “The suspected armed proscribed group invaded the facility with improvised explosives, shooting sporadically, and fire caught part of the station,” Ikenga said.

During the gun battle, two officers were killed and their bodies taken to the morgue. The commissioner of police, Obono Itam, visited the scene to assess the damage and reinforce security in the area.

Ikenga assured the public that security forces have launched a manhunt for the attackers. The incident is part of a series of recent attacks on police facilities in the state.
