Just four days after killing at least 87 people in Mafa, a community in Tamuwa County of Yobe State, Boko Haram radicals have struck again. This time, they targeted a camp belonging to citizen guards and government facilities.
“They stormed the town last night on foot, set ablaze some part of the government lodge, and burned down two vehicles belonging to a bread factory called Annour Bread,” a local source revealed to Daily Trust.
The insurgents were met with resistance from the citizen guards and special forces, forcing them to retreat, but not before they had burned down the vigilante camp, two vehicles, and a section of the local government lodge. One citizen guard was injured in the attack, according to a security agency source.
Security operatives had received intelligence about the impending attack and had cleared the streets before the insurgents arrived. “They come en masse on foot,” said DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command. “The insurgents stormed the town and started shooting sporadically.”
Military spokesperson Captain Shehu Muhammad also confirmed the attack but noted that troops successfully foiled the insurgents’ plans.
