Escaped Convict Re-Arrested in Borno State

The Nigerian police have re-arrested Kyari Kur, a 28-year-old convict who escaped from the Maiduguri prison during a “devastating flood” in September.

In a statement issued Friday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso confirmed Kur’s capture. “The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, has successfully re-arrested the escaped convict, Kyari Kur (aka Henry), 28 years old,” the statement read.

Kur was serving time for criminal conspiracy and theft. He escaped, along with 274 others, after the flood destroyed the prison’s fence.

On October 10, police received a tip-off about Kur’s whereabouts in Gubio town and quickly apprehended him. The police have since profiled him and plan to transfer him back to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) for further action.
