House Summons Wike, Security Chiefs Over Rising Insecurity in Abuja

The House of Representatives has summoned Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside Olatunji Disu, FCT Commissioner of Police, and Adeola Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), over escalating insecurity in Abuja.

The officials are expected to appear before the committees on FCT, police affairs, and national security following a resolution passed during Tuesday’s plenary.

The resolution came after Ismail Dabo, a lawmaker from Bauchi, moved a motion of urgent public importance. Dabo recounted the tragic death of his aide, Nimah Sulaiman, who was killed by ‘one chance’ operators on October 17 near Bannex Junction, Wuse 2.

“Despite paying ransom in full, her life was tragically cut short,” Dabo said. He described the crime as “heinous,” highlighting the growing insecurity within the FCT.

“The situation has become tumultuous and scary for residents,” Dabo added, noting that unregistered and unpainted taxis contribute to the surge in crime, giving criminals easy access to operate.

The motion, calling for urgent action to protect citizens, was adopted unanimously through a voice vote by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
