Nigerian General Relieved of Command Amid Corruption Inquiry

A high-ranking Nigerian military officer, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq is currently under investigation by army authorities for allegations of administrative discrepancies and misconduct while serving as Commander of 3 Brigade, Kano.

The Nigerian Army (NA) announced the investigation on Wednesday, stating that Sadiq had been relieved of his command to allow for a thorough probe. The investigation is being conducted by the NA’s internal disciplinary mechanisms.

While the exact nature of the allegations against Sadiq has not been disclosed, reports suggest that they may involve financial impropriety and the misuse of military resources. There are also allegations that Sadiq diverted rice palliatives intended for soldiers and sold military equipment to scrap dealers.

Sadiq has been replaced as Commander of the 3 Brigade and is currently detained in a military police guardroom in Abuja. He is facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of military police and could face charges at a court-martial.
