Nigeria’s Fuel Scarcity to End Soon, Says Industry Official

The ongoing fuel shortage across Nigeria will soon be resolved, according to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

Nigerians have been struggling with long queues at petrol stations, higher transportation costs, and increased prices of essential goods due to the scarcity. Many stations remain closed, forcing residents to pay exorbitant prices on the black market.

IPMAN’s spokesperson, Ukadike Chinedu, attributed the shortage to disruptions in the supply chain following the government’s shift to relying on Dangote’s refinery for fuel imports. “The federal government has decided they will not import but patronize Dangote and advised marketers to buy from him,” Chinedu said.

He explained that logistics and documentation issues also delayed supply, but Dangote’s refinery had already delivered 300 trucks of fuel to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Chinedu added that ongoing talks between IPMAN and Dangote aim to enable direct purchases by marketers, eliminating middlemen and improving distribution. “Dangote is reliably supplying the products and other products of crude oil,” he stated.
