The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun exporting refined petroleum products to neighboring West African countries, signaling a potential shift in regional fuel markets.
A tanker, CL Jane Austen, recently loaded over 300,000 barrels of gasoline from the refinery and sailed west, according to data from Vortexa, Kpler, and Precise Intelligence. Although the destination of the shipment remains uncertain, it is currently floating off Togo’s coast, a known hub for ship-to-ship transfers.
While Ghana is considering purchasing petroleum products from the Dangote refinery to reduce expensive exports from Europe, the refinery is in advanced talks to supply fuel to South Africa, Angola, and Namibia.
The refinery’s exports may also reach other African countries, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, according to local media.
