The Nigerian military has identified informants and suppliers of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) as significant obstacles to counter-insurgency operations in the country.
Defense Chief General Christopher Musa, described these individuals as the “oxygen” sustaining terrorism, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest regions. He stressed the need to cut off these supply chains.
“We have to look at how we tackle this issue of informants. Because these are the people who have created the issue. Those supporting the terrorists by giving them logistics, we have to look for the oxygen,” Musa said.
He cited success in the Northeast, where over 200,000 insurgents surrendered after their logistics were disrupted. “If we replicate that all over, we will have very good results. It is also very important that we work together as a team—all security agencies,” he added.
