Nigerian Police Kill 2 Robbers, Arrest 4 in Abuja Shootout

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command killed two armed robbers and arrested four others during a gunfight in the Jahi area of Abuja, officials said Wednesday. Five suspected car thieves were also arrested, and police recovered 13 stolen vehicles in operations led by the FCT’s scorpion squad.

FCT Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu said the robbers opened fire on officers responding to a distress call on October 21. “Upon sighting the police patrol vehicle, the suspects opened fire, and in the ensuing confrontation, two suspects were neutralized,” he said. Police arrested Haruna Abdullahi, 32, and Yerima Usman, 28, at the scene and later apprehended two additional suspects following a separate operation.

Disu added that the suspects confessed to being part of a gang led by a man identified as Dan Auwalu, who remains at large.

Among the five car theft suspects arrested were Arji Thomas, 32, Amobi Ndukwe, 40, and Amaechi Sampson, 26, linked to multiple thefts across Abuja. Police also recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux taken by a security guard, Usman Abubakar, who is still on the run.
