The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday called on the military to intensify efforts to prevent the spread of the Lakurawa terrorist group in the Northwestern States of Sokoto and Kebbi.
Senator Yahaya Abdullahi from Kebbi raised the issue during plenary, citing concerns about the group’s infiltration through the Nigeria–Niger border into Sokoto’s Illela, Tangaza, and Silame areas.
The Senate urged the military to maintain vigilance, collaborate with local communities, and establish early warning systems to prevent further incursions.
Senator Adamu Aliero, another Kebbi lawmaker, warned, “The time to act is now if we want to control the spread of these terrorists.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio agreed. “This is the way it starts. And if it is not nipped in the bud, it will spread terror across many parts of the country,” he said.
