URGENT SECURITY ALERT JERE TOWN

A large group of heavily armed bandits, estimated at over 100, has been spotted on motorcycles entering Jere town, Kangaroo County, Southern Kaduna, around 5 p.m., Nigeria local time Friday, Nov. 15. 2024, sparking widespread panic among residents. Eyewitnesses report that some bandits openly displayed their weapons, indicating a high likelihood of imminent attacks on communities surrounding Gurara Dam in Adara land, Kachia County. Specifically, Dutsin-kukum, Tungi-Taba, Ariko, Kandin, and Kujara are at risk.

The bandits’ brazen passage through villages has already caused chaos, with villagers fleeing into the bush for safety. Alarmingly, no police or military response was observed, even when the bandits rode past a police station in Jere. Travelers on the Jere-Kagorko route are advised to exercise extreme caution.
