Bandits abducted about 50 people, mostly women and children, from the Kakidawa ward in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun County in Nigeria’s Northwestern Zamfara State, in the early hours of Sunday.
Daily Trust reported that the attack happened around 2:00 a.m. local time, with 43 victims initially identified—three men and 40 women and children.
A resident described the raid as terrifying. “The entire village was gripped by fear as gunshots echoed throughout the operation. We have turned to prayers for the safe return of our loved ones,” he said. A headcount of the abducted was conducted on Monday, but no ransom demands had been made.
Daily Post, meanwhile, reported the incident began at 1:30 a.m. local time, with the bandits conducting a house-to-house search. “More than 50 of our women were abducted,” a community member stated, adding that young girls and married women were among the victims.
Authorities have yet to issue a statement.
