Armed bandits reportedly killed at least nine people in an attack on Dantudu Lajinge village in Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria, on Monday. The assailants targeted members of the village’s citizen guards group, with nine killed and their wives abducted.
A resident, Bello Dan-Tudu, claimed the bandits “slaughtered nine of them like ordinary rams.” The County chairman Ayuba Hamisu confirmed the attack and expressed his grief. “They killed nine of our people. I’ve suspended further engagements to return home and be with my people,” he said.
Efforts to obtain further details from police authorities were unsuccessful.
The attack adds to the list of growing trail of death and destruction in Nigeria’s Northwest, where armed groups frequently target communities. Authorities have been criticized for their slow response to these recurring incidents, leaving many rural areas vulnerable to further violence.
