Army Chief Olufemi Oluyede revealed that Nigeria has seen a large-scale surrender of Boko Haram and ISWAP jihadists due to the army’s relentless efforts. He made the announcement during the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference on Monday in Abuja.
Oluyede emphasized the army’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity. “We have increased the tempo of ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and wanton killings across the six geopolitical zones of the country,” he said.
The conference aimed to review the Nigerian Army’s activities for 2023 and plan for the upcoming year. Oluyede stressed that the focus would be on developing new strategies to confront terrorism and other security threats.
“So far, we have had a large-scale surrender of terrorists and the submission of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition,” the Army Chief added. “We will relentlessly pursue excellence in ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.”
Looking forward, Oluyede assured that both military and non-military efforts would be ramped up to bring lasting peace to Nigeria.
