Man Injured While Testing Homemade “Bulletproof” Amulet in Abuja

A man identified as a traditional healer, Ismail Usman, sustained serious injuries on Thursday in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, after testing a self-made bulletproof amulet by shooting himself in the stomach.

Samson Ayuba, a local resident, reported that Usman collapsed immediately after the failed test. “He tried to test a locally made gun on himself after he wore a bulletproof charm, which failed to protect him,” he said.

The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident. SP Josephine Adeh, police spokesperson, said officers transported Usman to a hospital for treatment upon meeting him in a critical condition.

A search of Usman’s residence uncovered a homemade gun and a collection of amulets, Adeh added. An investigation is ongoing.
