The Nigerian Air Force launched a precision airstrike on a well-known bandit hideout in Rugan Mai Taru, north of Tsafe County in Zamfara State, killing several bandits and disrupting their operations.
The operation, named “Fansan Yanma”, was carried out early Wednesday after intelligence revealed that heavily armed bandits were planning attacks on nearby communities.
Military sources reported that the strike inflicted significant damage on the hideout, effectively halting the group’s activities. Residents in nearby areas described hearing loud explosions and seeing smoke rising from the targeted location.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, confirmed the airstrike but did not provide specific details on the number of bandits killed.
Details of the mission remain limited. However, the offensive is part of the military’s broader strategy to combat banditry, which has plagued Zamfara and surrounding Northwestern states.
