Security forces in Imo State say they have uncovered shallow graves in Aku community of Okigwe County, allegedly used by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to bury their victims.
The graves were reportedly found during a raid led by Brigadier General U.I. Lawal, commander of the 34th Artillery Brigade, as part of a joint security operation.
Lawal identified the location as the residence of a suspected ESN leader known as “Gentle,” who has long been wanted by authorities. Several stolen vehicles, arms, ammunition, and explosives were also recovered during the operation.
Lawal stated, “The operation dismantled a significant base used by the criminal group in launching violent attacks on innocent citizens and security personnel.”
The raid has reportedly led to the arrest of 20 suspects.
