Plateau Christian Communities Threatened in the Jebbu–Miango, Ancha Region of Bassa County in Plateau State, Nigeria
According to Local observers, a Fulani Militia attack is being planned to avenge claimed cattle poisoning.
A post circulated Tuesday afternoon, March 17, by the GAFDAN Media Team, a Fulani Social Political Organization claiming that nine cows were found slaughtered after reportedly feeding on poisoned grazing land in the Jebbu-Miango area.
The post attributed the incident to suspected Irigwe Youth. However, a community leader from Ancha, Mr. John Yohanna, rejected the allegation in a statement to TruthNigeria, describing it as false and warning that it could be used as a pretext for further violence. According to Yohanna, Fulani herders had previously been banned from grazing in Ancha and the surrounding communities, and he stated that there are currently no cows or Fulani settlements within the area.
He further alleged that residents had received information about a possible attack being planned after the conclusion of Ramadan. Yohanna said the community is taking precautionary measures.
“We have received credible information about a planned attack on our community based on these accusations,” he said.
In a related development, Yohanna reported that attacks were carried out in nearby communities, including Miango, Nzharuvo, and Nchesherishi, where early this month seven individuals identified as Christians were killed.
He added that one of the victims was described as a Fulani Christian. As of the time of reporting, security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the alleged poisoning incident or the reported attack plans.
Bassa County has experienced recurring attacks by Fulani Militias, reported by TruthNigeria in recent years, usually linked to genocidal attacks, land grabbing, and displacement of Christians.
