SECURITY ALERT (UPDATED): CRITICAL TERROR THREAT – CHENCHENJI–YELWA, TARABA STATE

Date: 21 March 2026 Threat Level: CRITICAL Primary Target Zone: Chenchenji–Yelwa town, Wukari–Takum Road

Credible, multi-source intelligence indicates an imminent, coordinated terrorist attack targeting civilian populations and local community defense elements in the Chenchenji–Yelwa towns, on the Wukari-Takum Road, geocoordinates: 7.503532, 9.940392.

The attack is assessed as punitive in nature, with execution on Sunday 22 March. Armed elements identified as FEM Takum Unit are actively mobilizing reinforcements from outside the state, consolidating fighters, and preparing staging positions for offensive operations.

Fulani terrorists were spotted on 19 March crossing the Donga River, headed toward Gbundu, geocoordinates 7.633577, 10.077670, and heading south-west towards Amadu, geocoordinates 7.393217, 9.951948 and Chenchenji. Force Buildup & Infiltration: Over recent months, armed elements have infiltrated the region under cover of large cattle herds, establishing bush camps and embedding within rural areas.

Aerial/drone surveillance has confirmed herder elements moving openly with machine guns, indicating combat readiness and escalation beyond typical bandit activity. On 17 March, local community defense groups repelled and pushed out armed elements and associated cattle herds from farmlands, resulting in significant livestock losses for the FEM. This action is assessed to have triggered retaliatory mobilization. Recent Hostile Activity – Tor-Damisa Invasion: On 17 March at around 9:00 am, approximately 100 FEM terrorists attempted to overrun the town of Tor-Damisa (approx. 23 km NW of Chenchenji). The attackers burned properties around the market area and engaged in a fire-fight with Nigeria Police Force – Mobile Police unit stationed in the town. Three police officers were killed as well as two civilians.

This demonstrates high intent and capability for direct assaults on defended positions by the FEM, and the risk of far higher casualties for undefended towns and villages. Staging & Assembly Points – New Gboko (Key Assembly Area) Sources indicate that one of the FEM staging areas is located 17 km southeast of Chenchenji, in the abandoned Christian town of New Gboko, geocoordinates 7.44017, 10.08280. The town and its Living Faith church were previously sacked by the FEM, with dozens of destroyed homes visible in Vantor satellite imagery dating 6 March 2026. FEM terrorists operating in the area have \have warned female farmers who risked going to their fields that any men caught in the area would be killed. The FEM claimed control and ownership of seized agricultural land as granted to them by unidentified government officials.

Overall Risk Level: CRITICAL – ATTACK LIKELY WITHIN DAYS

Immediate Advisory For Residents & Local Communities: Activate maximum alert status immediately Avoid isolated farming activity, especially in contested or previously threatened areas Establish early warning and rapid communication systems Prepare safe evacuation contingencies where feasible For Security Forces: Conduct urgent reconnaissance and interdiction operations around: Chenchenji–Yelwa axis New Gboko staging area Forest and bush corridors along Wukari–Takum road Disrupt motorcycle-based mobilization networks Reinforce vulnerable communities and key access routes
