Armed hoodlums attacked a police roadblock in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria and gunned down two policemen. The unknown killers, dressed in military uniforms, opened fire on four policemen who were at the location for routine security patrol.
The attack happened at Ahiara junction in Ahiazu-Mbaise County of the State on Monday. The two officers killed were a divisional police officer (DPO) of the county and an inspector. A stray bullet reportedly killed a bystander.
Henry Okoye, police spokesperson, said a police team was dispatched to the scene to repel the attack. The reinforcement team, he said, “gave the hoodlums a hot chase, which forced them to flee with gunshot wounds, abandoning some of their operational motorcycles.” Eighteen suspects are in police custody in connection with the attack, TheCable reports.
